Pithead Chapel Pub, My Social Media Worries, Meet Literary Namjooning, and My Ukulele Gig

I would like to start out my weekly talk story with celebrating my first publication in Pithead Chapel! I hope you check out Mission Boys Are So Hot! Thank you to Kim Magowan for being an amazing editor!

I received an email from Electric Lit and it seems they, along with Lit Hub, are moving away from twitter/X, which I completely understand, it doesn’t do what it used to and it’s filled with so much crap.

BUT… it sparked a wave of anxiety in me because when big places like these leave the platform, I know that soon others will follow suit and that leaves people like me who do not have an in real life community and only virtual relationships with less access to these and other places’ content.

I know that going to their websites and getting their emails are the way they want us to move forward but a curated feed is what I am used to and I will be honest, I am less likely to open an email and read it then I am to click through on a social media post.

Also, how do new writers get recognized if places like this aren’t also looking at some kind of social media feed… I know they are on Bluesky, Instagram and I think Facebook so at least that is something. I think what got me was a statement that social media for the literary community is not the way forward and I just was like… okay… what is? Especially, for me and others who do not live in the US (or the UK). So I guess I will be stressing about this on top of everything else.

So let’s put that aside and talk about more good things. We are having a Meet Literary Namjooning Zoom - come hang out and chill with us… here’s the registration link!

I also had an ukulele gig in Karuizawa at Quartet Brewery! It was a lot of fun. Not too busy but that worked for me!
