Forming a Workshop Group with the Bereket Writing Community

I really believe that community is important as a writer.

When I decided to use Twitter (and Facebook/Instagram) for my writing, I had hoped to find that community. And I did. And I have. I even formed some informal writing groups. So between that and the workshops I have been taking, this seemed like enough.

Then, someone from the Bereket Writing Community reached out to me and asked if I was interested in participating in their writing workshop groups. I was definitely open to the idea, but I felt like I was participating in too many things and might get overwhelmed.

I met with the founder, Sevde Kaldiroglu, and we discussed what the community was about and what the workshop commitment entailed. There were two options: meet every 2 weeks or meet every 4 weeks. Since I was already participating in another informal group, I asked to join a 4 week group.

I have to admit. I was scared of the commitment. I would be workshopping my work every two months and workshopping the other members every month.

In the middle of all of this, I was no longer able to participate in one of my informal writing groups and thought… this must be fate.

I had my second workshop last weekend and I think this is going to be amazing. I really enjoy working with these writers and can’t wait to read and write and share community with them.

If you are looking for a workshop group with consistency and accountability, then I suggest contacting Bereket.

I hope you are all staying safe. Sending light and love and creativity!
