Embarrassing Myself on Twitter and Writing about Araby

I knew the Twitter exodus would affect a lot of people. I just didn’t realize we’d lose so many. I understand why people left and I don’t blame them.

This week I saw a post from Barlow Adams and felt like sharing a little joy with him, so I posted a recording of my attempt at playing Here Comes the Sun - and it was well received by so many people in our writing community! I was just beyond blown away by the positive reception. I got so many comments about it making people’s days. That was good joy to send and receive this week (especially with the midterm elections happening in the US).

Apparently as I write this, there is more fuel being added to the dumpster fire that is Twitter. I will move somewhere else if and when I have to, but I will stay for now.

This week I also wrote a little introduction/literary criticism of James Joyce’s “Araby” for Scratch Classics. They messaged me about a month ago asking if I would be interested in writing about a story written by someone who died before 1952.

I have to admit that at first I drew a blank, then I thought Joyce, but then I thought did he die before then… I am afraid to say time is weird because he feels very late modern to me and he’s basically beginning modern and he died in 1941 so he fit the bill. Phew!

I first read “Araby” as an undergrad (this was over 20 years ago) - it was eye-opening and inspirational. I hope that you all will read it when it goes live.

Finally, an acceptance from Trampset for Monica Wang’s guest editor issue! Super excited about this. It should go live on December 9th!
